Innsbruck Inn Renovations, Aspen, Colorado
B and Y Drilling, Inc.

The historic Innsbruck Inn structure was approved to be renovated by the City of Aspen, however, during final design the addition of a basement and reconstruction of the first floor was deemed necessary. Complete demolition of the structure was not possible due to the historic nature of the building and time constraints for construction. The option chosen was to separate the entire upper portion of the structure and some portions of the first floor from the first floor portion to be reconstructed.
Yeh and Associates conducted a
geotechnical investigation and prepared the design of a
micropile foundation, which could be built within the confines of the building area to lift the upper floors and designed the temporary micro-pile
retaining walls to allow construction of the lower levels of the structure and prevent damage to the adjacent buildings which were also of historic significance.

During construction, Yeh and Associates provided
construction observation and
materials testing services for the micropiles, including verification testing for strength. The use of micropiles in a foundation was the first micropile foundation to be built in the City of Aspen.
Yeh’s key personnel who worked on the project included
Roger Pihl who was the project manager,
Ben Arndt was the project technical reviewer and
Richard Johnson was the project engineer for the investigation and design.
